Palanquin, UNSW Galleries, Sydney Australia

Palanquin anachronistically coalesces concepts of the litter (wheelless vehicle), le lit-clos' (bed box) and the modernist proportions, materiality of mid-twentieth century case study homes. An unidentifiable nomadic consul oscillates above, carried upon anonymous shoulders, supporting a privileged and concealed chamber of extraterritorial opulence. A paradoxical and immersive architecture manifests, overt, padded, plush and private, an evocative bedchamber, a placeless coupling bassinet for pleasure seeking interlopers.
